Policy

1. Waldringfield Sailing Club and Training School is committed to equality of opportunity and aims to ensure that all present and potential participants, members, trainees, competitors, volunteers, instructors, coaches and contractors are treated fairly and on an equal basis irrespective of sex, age, disability, race, religion or belief, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, marriage and civil partnership, or gender reassignment.

Objectives

1. To make sailing and training an activity that is genuinely open to everyone, subject to our location’s access restrictions to clubhouse and boats.
2. To provide a framework for everyone to enjoy the activity in whatever capacity and to whatever level the individual aspires consistent with their ability and experience.
3. To make the club accessible to all, including those who have been under-represented in the past.

Implementation

1. All participants, coaches, instructors, officials, parents and volunteers are required to show respect and understanding for each other and treat everyone equally within the context of the sport, as described in the club’s Code of Conduct.
2. Appointment to positions within Waldringfield Sailing Club and the Training Centre will be made on the basis of an individual’s knowledge, skills and experience and competences required for the role.
3. Reasonable adjustments will be made to allow everyone to participate in sailing and training activities. There may be some activities that are not
   suitable for everyone due to the nature of the activity or for the safety of participants.
4. Any direct or indirect discrimination, harassment or bullying (as defined in the Equality Act 2010) should be reported to the WSC Safeguarding Co-ordinators (Ali Sudell, 07979 856 366, or Philippe Kerampran, 07514 345 193) or to a Flag Officer.
5. WSC reserves the right to discipline any of its members, instructors or participants, who practise any form of discrimination in breach of this policy. The club’s disciplinary procedure can be found here.
6. This policy will be reviewed by General Committee annually.
