Individual Benefits to participants :
The Go sailing sessions are a fantastic way to get to know more about dinghy sailing or to get back into a boat if you have been away from the sport.
- The sessions are a brilliant pathway into the club and allow you to experience dinghy sailing without needing to own a boat or being responsible for organising anything as it is all provided for you.
- The session will give you an informal taster session and can be used to improve your confidence, hone your sailing skills and provide you with a chance to try out different boats, sail with experienced helms and get to know the river and the things to consider when sailing on the Deben around Waldringfield.
- The experienced helms who support the sessions will try and accommodate any areas you want to focus on, which could be improving a certain technique or just having fun being on the water.

Formal qualifications:
The club runs a number of adult RYA courses throughout the year for club members and there will be a range of development opportunities available for those who are interested. For 2026 we are looking to embed elements of the Level 1 RYA course into the sessions for those who are interested in progressing their skills levels.
Access to club boats:
Don’t rush into buying your own boat! Provided you are a member and those responsible for the management of the club boats are happy you have the required skills level you can hire a club boat for a nominal fee. Use of club boats would be conditional to safety cover being provided for other training events or club racing (full schedule as per the programme). Find out more about booking a club boat…
Crewing opportunities:
Waldringfield sailing club has an active racing fleet which is made up of various classes such as the Topper, ILCA (Laser), OK, RS200, Lark, Wayfarer, Dragonfly’s and Squibs. For the two handers there are often opportunities for people to crew, and a number of previous Go Sailing members have gone onto crew for the different classes. We have a crew finder at the club, and each class has their own What’s App group. The classes are all really friendly and supportive and try and support the sessions with their class boats so that you can experience the different types of boats beyond the club boats. Contact the class captains and ask to join the relevant What’s App group…
Cruising:
Waldringfield Sailing Club has an active dinghy cruising section and a number of cruises are planned throughout the year. We normally go up or down river and have a picnic in a scenic location. Visit the dinghy cruising page of the website…
Race training:
The club provides a number of planned race training sessions for those wanting to get involved in club racing. The sessions are delivered by experienced sailors and give those new to racing the change to practice their skills in a safe and controlled environment. Social sailing scene:
The club has an active social scene with a number of events planned throughout the year. The galley is always busy, and it is a great place to meet people, have a chat over a cuppa, pint, glass of wine or enjoy the range of tasty treats the galley offers. As a member you enjoy free parking and even if you are not sailing it is a fantastic area to explore, meet up with others and enjoy the local area.
