Flag officers and committees
The honorary head of our club is our President (William Sudell) but the day-to-day running sits with the flag officers: Commodore (Anne Spalding), Vice Commodore (James Skellorn) and Rear Commodore (John Ogden).
The general running of the club rests with the General Committee which meets monthly. Chaired by the Commodore, this committee comprises all flag officers plus the treasurer, secretary, membership secretary Club Captain and other committee members.
The Sailing Committee reports to the General committee. It meets seven times a year, is chaired by the Club Captain and runs all the sailing activities and oversees on-water safety. The club is an RYA recognised training centre.
The House Committee, takes responsibility for the clubhouse, bar, and galley. Often running repairs and maintenance are carried out by the BOBS who meet on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. throughout the season. The club Bosun is responsible for the maintenance of safety boats and racing buoys. All members are eligible to stand for election for any committee post and are encouraged to do so. Nominations and elections take place prior to the AGM which is normally held in November. We are always on the lookout for new committee members, so please let us know if you are interested in helping.
Volunteers
The club is run entirely by volunteers with the exception of the caterer and the cleaner. Volunteers run the committees, undertake the administration, staff the safety boats, run the bar and galley, and organise all the sailing and non-sailing events. This keeps down costs but also encourages an all-inclusive, family atmosphere. All members are expected to volunteer for a number of duties each year and this is great way to get to know others.
